There's a particular kind of person who has their Christmas cards sorted by October. You know the one. Maybe it's you? I used to think that was a little much. But then Christmas arrived way too fast.

There's something about Christmas cards. They don't just mark a date on the calendar.
They carry a whole year of not-quite-said things:

I thought about you.

I'm glad you're in my life.

I hope this year was kind to you, and if it wasn't, I hope this card finds you anyway.

So yes, it's early.

The shops haven't started playing the songs yet, and somewhere out there a very reasonable person is thinking, isn't this too soon?

Here's my answer: The moments Christmas cards are for don't wait for December to matter.
The friend who's had an impossibly hard year.
The grandparent you don't see often enough.

The person who needs to know, in writing, that they were thought of before the season got busy and the thinking became harder to find time for.

Being early isn't about rushing the feeling.

It's about giving it room.

This year's Christmas cards lean into the quieter side of the season - the part that isn't tinsel and countdowns, but candlelight and stillness.

Each card is still made the way every Del Cards NZ piece is made: by hand, one at a time, here in New Zealand, with the kind of attention that doesn't scale and isn't meant to. Cards filled with beautiful little details, papers, textures, and wonderful embellishments.

These aren't mass-produced Christmas cards made to fill a shelf.
They're made slowly, for the people who matter.

I may have some Christmas card packs later on. But I wanted the main collection out into the world now, while there's still time for each card to be chosen carefully and travel somewhere far enough where early was exactly right.

Consider this permission.
Get ahead of the year you've had.

Write the card before the season swallows the time to write it.
Choose the words while you still have the space to think about them.
Save it for the person who deserves to hear it.

Because sometimes the loveliest part of sending a Christmas card isn't Christmas at all.
It's the moment someone opens the envelope and realises:
Someone really thought of me.
